Ian Burrell interviews Sir Robert Worcester in The Independent about the state of the news media and why we need the Media Standards Trust.

Sir Robert talks about how, though he ‘loves the media… he and a group of eminent colleagues in the industry think that somewhere, somehow, something has gone horribly wrong’.

Unimpressed by Tony Blair’s criticisms (‘It’s the height of hypocrisy from the man who employed Peter Mandelson, the architect of spin and manipulation”), Worcester acknowledges that the speech had substance but says it was “long on diagnosis and short on prescription”.

This can only come through proper research and an understanding of the problems facing the media.
